Sometimes it feels as though, in raising awareness for mental health and encouraging people to speak up and others to listen and understand, as if we’re trying to convince water its a solid.
I have been faced with and witnessed so much laughter and bad words spoken behind the backs of people who are suffering poor mental health and people who are doing all they can to add a little positivity into the world.
Stigma is the word that springs to mind.
If you find you’re head nodding thinking ‘yep, I too have been making efforts to talk about mental health and aid people understand and being laughed at or not taken seriously’ just always remind yourself that it’s nothing to do with you, you are not wrong – people just love to be ignorant to what they do not understand – because they don’t want to accept it.
It’s much easier, to them, to be rude obnoxious and dismissive – rather than open their minds to the real world.
Good luck to them getting through life being cold and shamefully ignorant.
More importantly, well done to you – because you’re doing fucking brilliantly.
