We are products of evolution and this does not stop with us rather is shows and continues within us. After finishing university I noticed that I felt a certain level of pressure from the generations before us to be, act and have a life’s path similar to theirs. But as we are ever growing and evolving creatures of science, as the world changes due to climate change, politics, job prospects, education and so on – we do too with it.
Our generation is more open about emotions, discussing mental health and well being, for example. We are adventurous and now favour travel after university rather than walking into a job for 15 years. We wish to create a new kind of impact on the world. Many of us are left wing, supported remaining in the EU and are a lot more interested in politics than people expect. More of us see further education as an option and believe we are capable of creating our own paths in life.
Many of us do not have ‘traditional’ aspirations and goals, by this I mean similar to those of the generations before us.
If you find yourself comparing your reality when you were 20 to my reality now that I am 20 as a way to place a certain level of pressure – please stop. Consider that we change and grow as people, a society and culture very rapidly. The world is not the same as it was several years ago.
It’s a fast paced, changing world.
Evolution is the fundamental idea in all of life science – in all of biology.
