They say it is a dog eat dog world. People are only out for themselves, and they will quite literally step on anyone ‘lower’ than themselves. To place yourself in a category of who is worthy and who is not, makes you less of a person and more of an existence. Do not define yourself by the numbers in your bank, by the price of the clothes on your back, money comes and it goes and all that is left is the impact you have on people’s lives.
Welcome to this city; a Monday morning. Here we go again.
Dragging their freshly polished shoes across the wet ground, grunting as their heavy eyes drag their head down. They pay contactless and await the most likely delayed train. On they go; no excuse me, no please, no thank you. Heads down, thumbs scrolling. Staring down their designer glasses reading the news that they pretend to care about. You have arrived at your destination. Picking up yet another overpriced, weak coffee and reaping none of its effects. Ignoring the homeless because they are better than them; yet failing to realise these people recognise their face as part of their morning routine. No good mornings, no have a great day, just here only for themselves as that is the only way.
This is not a comment on the working life, but our attitude towards it.
Pick your priorities carefully. Have a goal, but be kind when trying to achieve it. There is no joy in accomplishment without having people to share it with.
