Everyone is selfish. But that isn’t always a bad thing.
Each and every one of us has been called selfish at least once. When it is said to us it is meant in a hurtful way, it does hurt us. And we become defensive, we argue against saying how we aren’t being selfish. But… We probably were.
The reason I write this is because in recovery you have to be selfish. You have to do things to put yourself and your happiness first.
Everything we do in life is for selfish reasons and just because we do things to make ourselves happy doesn’t mean that makes those things bad.
We get into relationships, get a job in the career we want to do, work hard to pass our exams, learn how to drive, have children. Many things. Almost everything. It’s for ourselves.
So if you need to cancel something, change something, cut people out, move to a different country, quit your job… Do it. If it means making you happy. That’s all that matters.
